San Angelo double homicide suspect captured in Michigan

Ngan Ho, San Angelo Standard-Times

The fourth and final suspect in a Sept. 12 double homicide at a residence near Central High School has been captured.

Alvarado is accused of capital murder.

Raymond Alvarado Jr., 28, was arrested by a joint law enforcement fugitive task force Thursday afternoon in Lansing, Michigan, according to a news release from the San Angelo Police Department.

The Michigan authorities found Alvarado thanks to a Crime Stoppers tip. Task force members staked out an address in Lansing for several hours Thursday, the release said, and Alvarado was seen leaving the place and walking away. He was arrested without incident.

Alvarado is being held at the Ingham County Jail in Mason, Michigan, according to the release. He is expected to appear at the Ingham County Court on Friday. Alvarado's bond information is not available, according to the Ingham County Sheriff's Office inmate website.

He will be extradited to Texas, the release stated.

Alvarado is the 16th person—including four juveniles—arrested on charges of capital murder that took place in San Angelo since September 2014.

Alvarado and three other suspects were arrested on capital murder charges in the shooting death of Jimmy Andrew Gonzales and Anthony Martinez, both 28, on Sept. 12.

Ricky Ray Ortegon Zuniga, 25, Justin Gamez and Krystal Nicole Lerma — also known as Krystal Nicole Sanchez — both 27, were arrested shorty after the shooting and all remain in the Tom Green County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail each.

The three suspects identified Alvarado as an accomplice.

A grand jury met for a second time in November and returned a capital felony indictment for Zuniga. He was charged with capital murder of multiple persons in paragraph one of the indictment and capital murder in paragraph two. The other co-defendants' indictments has not been made public record.

Capital murder is punishable by death or life imprisonment.

A Tom Green County judge declined to reduce bail for Gamez in late October following two hours of testimonies.

Police were dispatched to a residence in the 1000 block of Rio Grande Street about 10:30 p.m. Sept. 12 for a report of a shooting, according to court documents.

A witness told investigators he saw three men and a woman enter the home before he "heard fighting, and eventually heard gunshots," according to an affidavit.

The witness said he took cover inside his home until the shooting stopped and then called police.

Officers found Gonzales and Martinez inside the home, both suffering from gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at Shannon Medical Center.

The U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force and the Lansing Area Fugitive Task Force—comprised of state troopers and officers from the Michigan State Police 1st District, the Michigan Department of Corrections, Ingham County Sheriff’s Department, and the Michigan State University Police Department — assisted in capturing Alvarado.
